The complete guide to installing your con rods
Con rods are without doubt the last thing you would want flying around the place when you step on the gas. But the con rod bolts have to withstand huge forces, which is why correct installation is really vital. Here you’ll find a complete guide to fitting the con rod bolts, and a table showing the correct stretch of each bolt.
It’s a good idea to have the following equipment to hand:
- Brake cleaner
- ARP Assembly Lubricant
- Ratchet or electric screwdriver
- Dial gauge for connecting rod bolts
How to install ARP connecting rod bolts
- Disassemble and clean the rods (including bolt and beam threads) to remove rust preventative.
- Apply ARP Molylube to the threads and under the head of each bolt.
- Assamble the rod to the piston. The rod bearing notches must show to the intake of the engine, due to rotation direction of the crankshaft!
- Install rods by bringing cap and beam into alignment. Tap into place before installing bolts (DO NOT USE BOLTS TO PULL CAPS INTO POSITION) Each rod is numbered and MUST be assembled with the same number on cap and beam.
